About the Charity

Up until 2016, the CNWL charity was simply a place for occasional donations to sit, and sometimes a grant to be made. From that point a more robust governance structure was developed, then during the pandemic significant grants were received from NHS Charities Together (NHSCT) and distributed within the Trust to beneficiary projects and initiatives.

The need, and response to the pandemic led the Trustee to undertake an eighteen-month root and branch review of the CNWL Charity. The outcome of this review was the publication of a new three to five-year strategic plan, with three key goals, and an ambition to grow the charity’s impact, enabled through active fundraising. This plan is supported by both the Executive Board and Charitable Funds Committee – who have identified and agreed financial resources to launch the plan.

This new charity strategy was developed in 2022, with recruitment of a Development Director to shape strategy to develop income generation and power engagement, to the point we are now. Our roadmap for 2023 has seen our brand and proposition refreshed, CRM system implemented, Engagement Strategy developed and approved, and our first donor acquisition Christmas appeal launched. Looking ahead our grant funding criteria and the grant making process will also be comprehensively reviewed.

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to utilise budgets agreed by trustees and build on the plans in place for campaigns via door drops, digital, lottery and face to face regular giving acquisition. The role will involve managing all aspects of acquisition and stewardship. This will include agreeing propositions, managing third party suppliers such as creative, lottery and face to face agencies, briefing creative for digital and online asks and liaising with our in-house comms team to execute engaging fundraising campaigns.

We are seeking an experienced Individual Giving Manager to take the lead in developing, testing, learning and growing the direct marketing programme and developing supporter journeys. The Individual Giving Manager will also be responsible for developing and delivering the stewardship programme to maximise loyalty and lifetime value. This role has lots of scope for someone to shape the approach.

We are a small team, and this role requires someone who is both able to think strategically and roll their sleeves up to get the job done.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver against our income targets via a mix of direct marketing and stewardship techniques
  • Develop excellent supporter journeys that maximise engagement and loyalty
  • Brief and manage our third-party agency relationships
  • Develop supporter care processes, operations and relationships
  • Lead innovation for our individual giving approach as part of a test and learn culture
  • Collaborate proactively across the organisation and wider NHS Trust to find, develop and share stories that will inspire support
  • Be a positive, empathetic team player that engages with all other colleagues across our organisation

The manager should have experience of:

  • A fundraising role in a charity of comparable size and channel mix with proven success in establishing acquisition campaigns
  • Briefing and managing agency relationships across a mix of channels including face-to-face, digital and offline
  • Working with third party event suppliers to deliver places in events and corresponding promotional packages
  • Developing stewardship approaches and supporter journeys that maximise supporter loyalty
  • Monitoring the performance of the individual giving function using a range of metrics and reporting on this in a concise and timely manner
